Retainer wear: what’s the magic number

Quick question for the trivia lovers: post-debond, what minimum nightly retainer wear most reliably prevents early relapse? I coach 10–12 hours with Essix or Hawley because I’ve seen mild lower incisor crowding sneak back at 6–8 hours during 6‑month checks — curious what you teach and see stick.

I tell patients 12 hours nightly for the first 12 months and add a bonded 3–3 if I smell risk, then taper to 8 hours — , those lowers relapse fast. @OP were your 6–8 hr relapses mostly with Hawleys and with any missed nights early on? The “last on, first off” rule gets most people to that 10–12 hour window consistently.

Had two postings vanish mid-application — . I now save the JD as a PDF and keep a 4-line cover note with 3 matching keywords, so when it reappears elsewhere I can fire it off in under a minute. Small caveat: even when a role says ‘verified remote’ with a sign-on bonus, the fine print sometimes limits eligibility to certain states.

I’ve seen fewer ‘6–8 hour’ relapses after 2-week full-time wear, then 10–12 nightly, @OP. Hawley if they brux?
